Blood and hormone tests

I think it’s really important for women, especially as we get older, to get our blood and hormone levels tested. Recently, I was feeling out of whack and Debbie suggested I get tested. The results came back that my vitamin D and iron, which is the most common deficiency for women, were totally depleted. The standard setting for my hormones seems to be a system overloaded with cortisol – the ‘fight or flight’ hormone that kicks in when we’re always fuelled by adrenalin. To compensate, I have to ensure I get plenty of sleep to restore energy reserves (and I am always working on other techniques – like exercise – to bring that cortisol down). It’s not enough to only consider our health when we’re at death’s door. We have to get better at thinking, ‘How do I feel, and how do I want to feel?’ We need to be fighting fit.
